  5. which he packed himself, failed to open fully during a 2,500-ft.
  6. drop; near Sheridan, Ore. Charmet, who learned to jump while
  7. serving in the French Foreign Legion in Algeria in the 1950s, often
  8. said he lived by the chutist's adage: "Only sky divers know why
  9. birds sing."
